Chelsea FC Women have secured their first-ever competitive victory over Bundesliga side Wolfsburg in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final, thanks to Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder second-half strike.
Emma Hayes’ side were on the back foot throughout the first-half, and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger kept his side in the contest with a world-class save, denied Wolfsburg strike Rolfo twice.
But, in the second half period, Emma Hayes’ side were much improved. Samantha Kerr opened the scoring in the 55th minutes of the game after combining with Fran Kirby once more.
Pernille Harder doubled his side in the 66th minute of the game by sliding the ball into the corner of the net after Kirby intercepted Kiedrzynek’s short goal-kick.
Wolfsburg did, however, manage to pull one back with a penalty from Dominique Janssen but Chelsea are in control of this tie.
The second leg is next week and Emma Hayes will fancy has side to progress, although they will have to improve defensively.
