Emile Smith-Rowe, who used opportunities handed him by Mikel Arteta against Chelsea back in December to establish himself as one of the pivotal player for Gunners, was once again proved the match-winner for Arsenal at Stamford Bridge last night.
The 20-year-old attacking midfielder produced impressive performances that was key in helping Arsenal take three points from their visit to Chelsea, who are in excellent form since arrived of Thomas Tuchel back in January.
The End Hale academy product helped to blow the race for Europe wide open by grabbing the only goal of the game at Stamford Bridge, pouncing on a mistake by Jorginho to fire home on 16 minutes.
Smith-Rowe, who scored his first Premier League against West Brom last weekend, enjoyed a fantastic night’s work, not only with his goal but his willingness to take the game to the hosts during spells where it appeared like his teammates were more than happy to absorb wave after wave of Chelsea pressure.
The Englishman, affectionately nicknamed the ‘Croydon De Bruyne’, even managed to nutmeg a defender of Thiago Silva’s calibre late on which he was pressed to comment on after the game.
After the incident was mentioned, Smith Rowe responded with humility, claiming: ‘I can’t even remember it, but if it was I’ll take it.’
