So talented: Checkout major reason why Chelsea want to sign Jose Gimenez [Watch Video]

Jose Gimenez has been identified by boss Frank Lampard as defender to solve Chelsea’s defensive woes after that role have faced significant criticism in 2019/20 campaign.

Gimenez, who arrival at Atletico Madrid in 2013, has gone from strength to strength. Initially learning from the great Diego Godin, Gimenez quickly figured out what it to hang at the top level.

Gimenez is a highly-rated centre-back that is great in the air and has incredible experience for a 25-year-old, earning 58 senior international caps for his national team Uruguay.

The 25-year-old is a ball-playing defender that has made 190 appearances for La Liga side and previously won league title, which is why a selection of Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believe he could be a great addition to current squad.

Standing at 6ft inch (185cm), Gimenez has won 75.4% of his aerial duels in La Liga this term which would make him fit Lampard’s idea of getting taller defenders to boost Chelsea’s set-piece defence.

The Uruguay international has £109million release clause in his contract and Chelsea will have to negotiate to reduce the price should they want to bring him to Stamford Bridge this summer.

The Blues boss Frank Lampard is looking for somebody with experience at the highest level – someone who can take control of a game when things get ugly.

He also somebody who would fit into the rebuild dynamic going on at Stamford Bridge, and defending is not just good enough for Gimenez. It’s all about doing whatever it takes to stop a goal, regardless of what may happen afterwards.
