Report: Chelsea closing to complete the signing of Thiago Silva on free transfer from PSG

Thiago Silva’s propose switch to Stamford Bridge is “almost done” after his last game for Paris Saint-Germain ended in defeat in the Uefa Champions League final, according to reports.

Kingsley Coman’s second-half header in Lisbon last night saw the Bundesliga side win their sixth European Cup and deprived the 35-year-old defender and PSG their first Champions League title.

The Brazilian centre back gave an emotional farewell to the Ligue 1 champions after the defeat, following the The Athletic reported that Silva is now extremely close to joining Chelsea after eight years and seven league titles at Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is looking to overhauling his defence this summer after his side conceded 79 goals across all competitions in 2019-20 campaign.

The Blues have already bolster their attacking options with arrival of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner from Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.

And it looks like the west London club are now switch their attention to strengthen their back-line options with reports suggested boss Frank Lampard is now closing in on a surprise move for the 35-year-old centre back, who confirmed his desire to play at the next World Cup in 2022.

‘It was my last game in Paris. I am sad. I apologise to the fans,’ Silva – who turns 36 next month -told French outlet RMC Sport.

‘I thank all the fans for their love. I will return to Paris and this club that I love in another role.

‘I want to play three to four years still and be part of Brazil team in the Qatar World Cup.’

Leicester’s Ben Chilwell has also reportedly completed his Chelsea medical ahead of a summer move to the Stamford Bridge.

The England international is set to sign a long-term contract worth £150,000-per-week after the Blues agreed to pay Leicester City £50million for his signature this summer.

Chelsea are also in productive talks with Bayern Leverkusen over the deal of highly-rated creative midfielder Kai Havertz, who has been valued by the Bundesliga club at around £90million.
