Arsenal have agreed a deal with Atletico Madrid for midfielder Lucas Torreira while Thomas Partey could be going the other way.
The Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to sign a defensive midfielder in the summer after identifying it as a problematic position.
The north London side have been devoid of a strong’ defensive midfielder for some time now.
They have not had a specialist in the position since Gilberto Silva, while current options Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are not those kind of players.
And Torreira is keen on leaving after being ostracised from the squad. The 24-year-old has barely featured under Mikel Arteta and is desperate to go in search of first-team football.
And according El Gol Digital, claims Atletico Madrid have made significant attempts in order to sign the Uruguayan midfielder over Torino and Fiorentina.
Both Serie A outfit are interested but only want a loan deal whereas Arsenal would favour a permanent move.
El Gol Digital add that the La-Liga giant want Torreira, but are struggling to put together a financial package to sign the Uruguayan.
The reports explains in details that Diego Simeone is a huge fan of Lucas Torreira, having watched him throughout last season.
He admires the ex-Sampdoria star’s style and likes his tough-tackling, gritty attitude on the pitch.
Furthermore, a deal could be struck that would see Thomas Partey go the other way.
The Ghana international is Mikel Arteta top target as he looks to bolster his midfield by adding some steel but has found Atletico Madrid tough negotiators.
But with Lucas Torreira also on the table, a deal could be struck that works out for all parties.
