New Arsenal signing Thomas Partey has admitted that he’s ready to make his debut when Gunners play Manchester City this weekend.
Mikel Arteta’s side first game after the international break sees them make the trip to the Etihad Stadium where they’ll be looking for a first win at the ground since the 2014-15 campaign.
And head coach Mikel Arteta could return to his former club his new £45million summer signing in tow.
Partey, 27, touched down in the UK on Tuesday afternoon for the first time since his deadline day transfer was confirmed and has been training with his new teammates ahead of the big game on Saturday evening.
But will Mikel Arteta throw the 27-year-old in at the deep end straight away?
Well, Partey has declared that he’s ready to start against Manchester City, but accepts the decision rests with the Arsenal manager as he’s still to familiarise himself with the team and the style of play.
‘I like to play in the big matches,’he said. But it all depends on the coach and whether he wants me to play or not. It depends on him.
‘I need to get used to the squad and then train before we can see what will happen.”It’s the decision of Mikel. I just arrived. I’m prepared but I need to get used to the style of play.
‘I think I have to be quick, make sure that I learn everything as fast as I can. I have make sure I do everything on the training ground and make sure Mikel sees that I’m ready to play for him.’
Should Thomas Partey get the nod he could forge a midfield trio alongside Dani Ceballos and Granit Xhaka.
When explaining his style of play, the powerful central midfielder has effectively outlined how Mikel Arteta can get the best out of him in the engine room.
‘I think the most important thing is that I like to play in the midfield, but then wherever I need to play to help the team, I will play there and try my best to help the team,’he added.
‘I think I have to be quick, make sure that I learn everything as fast as I can.
‘In football, I have make sure I do everything on the training ground and make sure Mikel sees that I am ready to play for him.’
