Philippe Coutinho’s representative Kia Joorabchian is reportedly in talks with Arsenal over a summer deal for the Brazil international.
Coutinho, 27, is on a season-long loan deal at Bayern Munich but the Bundesliga champions have revealed they won’t activate the option to make the move permanent. That means he will return to Camp Nou this summer with the Catalan giants are keen to offload him in a bid to raise transfer funds of their own.
Barcelona had set £70million asking price before the worst of the coronavirus pandemic struck, but it remains to be seen if they will lower that asking price given the changing financial climate.
According to Le10sport, the Gunners have now made Coutinho one of their top transfer priorities having opened talks with Kia Joorabchian.
Discussing Coutinho’s future last month on Sky Sports News, Joorabchian said ‘everything is possible’ but insisted his personal love of Arsenal will not play a role when Coutinho comes to making a final decision.
‘The fact I’m an Arsenal supporter is not a secret,’ Joorabchian told Sky Sports News.
‘I don’t have any preference where the players go. I don’t try to push someone to one club or another. Everything is a possibility. After the Champions League game he played in England we had a long chat about it.
‘The Premier League is something that he has always enjoyed playing in, and loved playing in, and would probably love to come back and play in.
‘The question is what are going to be the financial conditions of all the clubs, including Barcelona and all the Premier League clubs at the end of this pandemic.’
Coutinho made impressive starting in Bundesliga for the 2019/20 campaign, bagged nine goals and eight assists for the Bavarian side before picking up an ankle injury which has required surgery.
