Gabriel Magallanes’ Lille team-mate Jose Fonte has dropped a huge hint that the Brazilian defender would favour a move to Arsenal this summer.
The 22-year-old centre-back appears certain to leave the Ligue 1 side in the coming weeks, and it believed the Premier League side Arsenal have agreed a £22m deal to sign the player.
Napoli are also thought to be in the hunt for highly-rated defender, however, and it looks like it will ultimately be down to Gabriel to decide where he wants to go.
And Jose Fonte, formerly of Crystal Palace, Southampton and West Ham, has revealed that Gabriel has asked him about his experiences playing in the Premier League – which may suggest he is leaning towards north London as opposed to Italy.
‘Hopefully he will make his decision and he will be very successful with it. I have no doubt about it.’
Speaking to talkSPORT, Jose Fonte said: ‘I think it’s quite public, to be honest. The club have allowed him to speak with other clubs and he’s in the process of moving.
‘It’s just about him choosing which club, which is a great position to be in. He just needs to choose where he wants to go so that’s fantastic.
‘They are all good clubs so I’m very happy for him. He’s a great player. We need to understand that it’s every player’s dream to play in the Premier League and he’s been asking questions about the Premier League and clubs in the Premier League so I try to give the best and honest opinions.
The Brazilian defender had a big part to play in Lille’s 2019/20 campaign, and featured for the full 90 minutes in all six of their Uefa Champions League games earlier in the season.
Gunner head coach Mikel Arteta is known to be keen on bolstering his back line, and clearly sees the Brazilian as the perfect candidate.
