Just In: Frank Lampard outlines Timo Werner & Hakim Ziyech will improve Chelsea next season

Frank Lampard has outlined how new Chelsea signings Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will improve his side attacking lineups next season – believes both talented players would improve with the injection of quality.

Werner, who scored 34 goals and contributed 13 assists in all competitions for RB Leipzig last season, relinquished the delayed Champions League campaign with Bundesliga side to join Chelsea last month, in a bid to be in sharp goalscoring form by the start of the new English term.

Ziyech, meanwhile, scored eight goals and contributed 12 assists in all competitions for Ajax before a break given the Dutch season was cancelled at the end of the April.

Both the Blues’ new attacking stars have already spent several weeks training with their new team-mates, leaving Chelsea boss Frank Lampard outlined how the two talented attackers will improve his side next season.

He said: ‘With Timo and Hakim coming to the club, after being under a transfer ban, those two signings are so important.

‘I remember as a player when the club would bring in players of a really high level. You would feel the excitement in training, you would see the level rise.

‘The players already here would improve with the injection of quality. The lockdown gave us pause for thought in how we wanted to move forward.

‘You can see that with those signings. Now we want to keep going in that direction.

‘When you’re talking about being successful in the longer term you need some experienced voices.

‘My thoughts on next season are, can we improve? Younger players have more experience. The expectations on them will be more, and they have to react to that.

‘The players we’ve brought in must up the levels of the group. We must not settle for where we are. I always want more. Let’s work daily to improve.

‘We must work to close the gap above us. We must find consistency. And we must believe. I will keep working for that and hopefully the fans can see that.’
