Arsenal are confident Kieran Tierney’s calf strain is not serious and the influential left-back will be in contention to feature on Monday evening against Newcastle United at Emirates stadium.
The former Celtic star was rested as a precaution ahead of last night’s stalemate against the Eagles which brought to a halt Arsenal’s four-game winning run.
Mikel Arteta confirmed the left-back was due to undergo a scan on Friday but The Athletic report that the 23-year-old has not suffered a serious injury and he will be available for selection as early as next week.
Asked whether Gunner’s game-plan had been impacted by Tierney’s absence, Mikel Arteta told Sky Sports: ‘Yeah, he’s a real threat and the way we are playing and the way we attack on that left side, he’s a really important player.
‘But we didn’t have him, he’s injured and we had to find other solutions.’
