Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiries about sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, who established himself as one of best youngest frontman in the world of football.
The Gunners, who trimming their squad to the bare minimum in January transfer window, keen on strengthen their squad with additional of world-class striker following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Alexandre Lacazette who lead Mikel Arteta’s side front-line in recent months, expected to leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
As a result of that, a top centre-forward is the priority for Arsenal this summer, and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez who has been prolific for Portuguese side become emerged target for the London club following his eye-catching display in the last two seasons.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international has had a fine season, scoring 26 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions this season.
His stellar performances in front of goal in the previous 18 months attracting the attention of plenty of club’s across the continent with including West Ham United and Newcastle United.
But according to report by Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal spoke with Darwin Núñez’s agent in January over possiblity of secure the highly-rated forward.
Nunez, 22, certainly fits the mould of striker Mikel Arteta wants. He has similarities with January target Dusan Vlahovic and has qualities that suit Arsenal. Financially, the Gunners could be in a position to splash big in the summer, more specifically on a new striker.
The Gunners also been linked with likes of Alexander Isak, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Victor Osimhem as Mikel Arteta eager to strengthen his squad with quality players in aiming of challenge for major titles next season.
