Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has tipped his old club to sign Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland in a “mind boggling” deal this summer.
The Blues are in market for a new centre-forward this summer and it’s understood that Erling Haaland, 21, who scored 41 goals with additional of seven assists across all competitions last term, is primary target for the west London club.
Chelsea have already sold Olivier Giroud to AC Milan and Tammy Abraham appears to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge; with Arsenal amongst a host of clubs chasing his signature.
As a result of that, Tuchel is expected to strengthen his front-line with a new fresh face and Cascarino, who scored eight goals in 40 appearances between 1992- 94 for Chelsea, believed his former club can seal a potential record-breaking to bring the 21-year-old Norway striker to Stamford Bridge.
Cascarino told talkSPORT the Blues are moving players on in order to fund a move for Haaland.
‘Some people will say that doesn’t work but clubs are trying to abide by the rule and they have to move people out.’ The former Republic of Ireland striker told talkSPORT.
‘For them to do that they are going to do a mind-boggling transfer and I think it will be Haaland.
‘Whether everyone says no it’s next year and that’s in his contract, Chelsea are going to offer big money for somebody and I suspect it will be him.’
And Cascarino is confident the Blues will spend the money required to secure one of the most sought-after players in world football, having won the Champions League and sold Eden Hazard to Real Madrid in the past couple of seasons.
‘Chelsea have earned a lot of money over the last year or so, Champions League and selling of Hazard. They make quite a lot of money.
‘I cannot believe they aren’t going to break the bank to get someone like Haaland. They are going to do a really big transfer in my opinion.
‘It’s been so quiet but the storm is coming. Roman [Abramovich] has always done it. He’s always backed it up, I’d be gob smacked if they go in with the squad they’ve got today even though they are European champions, expect a really big deal from Chelsea.’
Borussia Dortmund meanwhile are reportedly close to signing PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch forward Donyell Malen, a potential replacement for Haaland, who is expected to completing a sensational move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
