Do You Agree: Alan Shearer revealed how Chelsea will secure more top target after Timo Werner & Hakim Ziyech deal

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has admitted that it is more important than ever for Chelsea to finish in the top four this season in bid to land others top transfer target after secured the signing of Hakim Ziyech and also appear set to snap up highly-coveted RB Leipzig ace Timo Werner in a sensational swoop.

The Blues are looking set to be one of the biggest spending teams in Europe this summer, having flaunted their financial clout to bring in two talented players to Stamford Bridge.

Hakim Ziyech, who racked up a staggering 97 goals and registered 123 assists in 282 career appearances for Heerenveen, Twente and Ajax across all competitions will be arriving in the summer after the Blues paid Ajax £37.5million for the attacking midfielder.

Following that, report emerged last week suggested that the Blues have agreed to pay Werner’s release clause of £53million and the 24-year-old forward has accepted the deal on the table offered by the Stamford Bridge club worth around £180,000-a-week (£9m-a-year).

They are expected to continue spending, with Frank Lampard reportedly determined to buy Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell, Leverkusen’s Kia Havertz, and Dortmund’s Jando Sancho once the window opens

And Shearer believes it is now more important than ever for Chelsea to qualify for Uefa Champions League next year in able to attract top transfer targets.

Frank Lampard’s side are currently in fourth spot in the table, five points ahead of sixth-placed Wolves.

Due to Manchester City’s ban, the team in fifth will also qualify, meaning Lampard has a buffer between his side and the Europa League spots.

Writing in his column for The Sun, Shearer explained why the Stamford Bridge giants are in a good position to make big-name signings.

He said: ‘Signing Timo Werner is a huge statement from Chelsea – but it would be a kick in the teeth not to make the top four now.

‘Along with Hakim Ziyech, they have got two big-hitters through the door before the transfer window has opened.

‘I am certain there will be more to come, too, with Ben Chilwell also on their radar.

‘But these players will all be expecting to play in the Champions League next season, so it’s imperative they get the job done.

‘With a three-point cushion in fourth it would be a real anti-climax if they didn’t, considering the talent on the way in.’

Alan Shearer also reserved particular praise for Germany ace Werner, who netted 31 goals and registered 13 assists across all competitions this season.

He added: ‘Whether they do make it or not, Frank Lampard’s squad is looking in great shape.

‘And in Werner, they’ve got someone who a lot of other top teams in Europe wanted.

‘At 24, he’s the perfect age, his international career is taking off, and he will without a doubt add something special.’
