Blues leave Thiago Silva at home for Champions League trip to Krasnodar

Chelsea have decided not to take veteran defender Thiago Silva to Krasnodar for their Uefa Champions League group game on Wednesday.

Boss Frank Lampard has eased the defender into first-team action since his summer arrival and the Chelsea manager has opted to rest the centre back with the Russian side missing eight senior players.

Silva, 36, played 90 minutes against Sevilla and Manchester United, helping Frank Lampard’s side to get first two clean sheets of the season in two 0-0 draws.

The Blues will also be without goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalga, who has not recovered from a shoulder injury that kept him out of the trip to Old Trafford.

Marcos Alonso is also unavailable as he serves the second game of his three-match suspension after his red card against Bayern Munich last season.

Blues squad for Krasnodar clash revealed

Chelsea have been revealed the players that will available for Krasnodar clash as Frank Lampard’s side desperate to get back to winning ways when they clash with Russian side on Wednesday night.

Thiago Silva has stayed in London, that means one of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen or Fikayo Tomori will partner Kurt Zouma at the heart of the defence.

The Brazilian star is expected to return for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley, apart from that there are no surprises in the travelling party, although a number of younger players will be eyeing game time against the Russian side.

Frank Lampard drops huge boost about Hakim Ziyech ahead of Krasnodar v Chelsea

Frank Lampard has hinted that talisman Hakim Ziyech could get his first start for Chelsea when the Blues take on Krasnodar in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday night.

The 27-year-old Morocco international has been settling into life at Stamford Bridge after having signed for for the west London club from Ajax earlier in the year.

Ziyech is yet to make his first start for Chelsea as he continues to work on his fitness levels.

However, Frank Lampard has now suggested that the 27-year-old is close to being fit enough to play from the start ahead of Blues’ trip to face Russian side Krasnodar on Wednesday night in Europe’s elite club competition.

Hakim Ziyech is now looking like he is coming close to starting a game with his fitness,’ said Frank Lampard.

Lampard also admitted that he is exciting about the attacking prowess shown by his team in recent games, despite the likes of Kai Havertz and Timo Werner having fired blanks at Old Trafford.

He continue: ‘I am least worried about the front end of the pitch with the players that we have there.

‘It is normal it will take some time for the relationships in the side to form, whether we want to play the ball in behind or to feet.

We are in such an early part of the season and I know the qualities and the reasons we brought Timo and Kai into the club. I know the qualities we already have there.
