Mikel Arteta eyes Paulo Dybala as an alternative to Martin Odegaard

Arsenal have identified Juventus playmaker Paulo Dybala as a potential transfer target for the summer, should they fail to agree terms with Real Madrid over a permanent deal for Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard, 22, settled seamlessly into life in North London – brought quality, composure and an ‘incredible’ work-rate to Mikel Arteta’s side after joining the Gunners on a temporary deal in January.

As a result, Mikel Arteta & club chief are eager to extend his time at Emirates stadium beyond this season. However, should Gunners fail to agree terms with La Liga champions, they will look to sign Juventus playmaker Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window instead, account to Sport.

Mikel Arteta has reportedly told the club’s board that they must do everything in their power to keep Martin Odegaard at the club.

However, Arsenal’s hopes of landing Odegaard on a permanent deal beyond the season look to have taken a huge blow as Real Madrid are said to ‘not even be contemplating’ a permanent sale of the attacking midfielder, who scored two goals across all competitions for the London club.

Martin Odegaard also declared his desire to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, calling such an opportunity a ‘dream’. Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta remains positive about the summer transfer window and says he would be ‘delighted’ to land Dybala as an alternative option – according to Spanish publication Sport.

Dybala, 27, struggling with injury problem throughout this campaign, which saw him scored just three goals in 16 games and also is approaching the final year of his contract with the club.

With talks over a new deal reportedly at a standstill, Juventus are likely cash in on 27-year-old playmaker this summer, and the Arsenal manager will, however, have to fend off interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham and Chelsea for the midfielders signature.

Atletico Madrid, Sevilla and Roma keeping tabs on Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette

Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Roma are keeping tabs on the contract situation of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, a report from ESPN claims.

The Frenchman is currently in his fourth season with the Gunners and he has had a decent campaign with 13 goals from 34 appearances.

His form since Boxing Day has been excited, and he recently played a major part in all three goals in the 3-3 comeback draw at West Ham United from three goals down.

Despite impressive performances in recent months, Lacazette’s future remains uncertain with his contract expiring in 15 months, and this has apparently caught the eye of multiple European clubs.

Atletico are long-term admirers of the Frenchman from his Lyon days, and it is now reported that Roma and Sevilla have joined the pursuit of the 29-year-old striker, who valued at £31.5 million.

Lacazette has already registered 61 goals and contributed 28 assists from 161 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang shows off new style inspired by rapper Travis Scott

Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken to Instagram to show off his brand new trim.

Aubameyang is known for regularly changing the colour and pattern of his hair – having previously sported red and white locks after Arsenal won the FA Cup in 2020.

However, this time, the Gabonese international has been inspired by rapper Travis Scott and opted for box braids.

Aubameyang shared a picture of himself and Willy Aubameyang on his Instagram story with the caption: ‘New song is coming soon’.

Having been tagged as Travis Scott, Aubameyang can be seen sporting several braids while wearing his Arsenal training kit.

The 31-year-old is pictured standing next to his brother – who has also been linked to the music industry by being tagged as Sean Paul.

Martin Odegaard lavishes praise on ‘top talent’ Gabriel Martinelli

Martin Odegaard believes Arsenal team-mate Gabriel Martinelli is ‘one for the future’ and urged the highly-rated Brazilian forward to continue his hard work to force his way back into the side.

Martinelli, 19, struggled for minutes this season after returning in December from a long-term knee injury, which not only required surgery but also kept him sidelined for nine months.

The highly-rated forward scored 10 goals in 26 appearances in his debut season for the club after joining from Ituano in 2019, but having featured in three straight Premier League games following his return from injury, he has since seen little game time.

He was left on the bench by Mikel Arteta for six consecutive top-flight games before being totally omitted for the 2-1 north London derby victory – in which Odegaard scored his first Premier League goal since joining on loan from Real Madrid in January – and has seen just 22 minutes of Europa League action this term.

When he has featured, Martinelli has been limited to sporadic appearances as a substitute, most recently replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the second half of the thrilling 3-3 draw at West Ham last weekend.

But new Norway captain Odegaard, 22, believes Martinelli is a ‘top talent’ who will ‘reach his goals’ if he continues to show endeavour in training.

Asked if there was an Arsenal youngster that had particularly impressed him, Odegaard told the Premier League: ‘Yeah. Obviously we have Bukayo [Saka] and Emile [Smith Rowe] and they are already playing so much. But I think one guy who hasn’t played that much lately is Gabi Martinelli.

‘He’s such a big talent, you see him in training every day and you see it. He’s a really talented player with a lot of qualities, so I think definitely he’s one for the future. And he’s so young still, so I will go with him.’

Asked if Martinelli can make an impact for Arteta’s side, Odegaard added: ‘Yeah definitely. As I said, he’s really young so he just has to keep working hard – as he’s doing every day in training.

‘He will reach his goals because, from what I see every day in training, he’s a top, top talent. ‘For him it’s just about continuing doing his work and then everything will come for him.’
