Arsenal are return winning ways by defeating Newcastle United with 2-0 at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

The Gunners are struggling in their last three games in all competitions, draw one and loss two, but Mikel Arteta’s men produced solid display at St James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.

Mohamed Elneny gave Arsenal the lead just five minutes into the game with his first ever Premier League goal – a volley into the bottom left corner after Aubameyang mistimed his own effort.

In 29th minutes of the game, Granit Xhaka closer to double the Gunners lead by shot from range but goalkeeper Dubdavka pushed out for a corner.

Gabriel Martinelli

Despite dominating possession, Mikel Arteta’s side unable to extend their lead until 65th minutes when club skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a lovely goal to continue his strong record in matches against Newcastle.

The Gabon international made it six goals in eight games versus Newcastle after Gabriel Martinelli found some space on the left flank and whipped in a cross for him at the far post.

Instead of heading it, Aubameyang flew through the air to hook it into the back of the net from close range and double Arsenal’s lead.

The win provides a much-needed confidence boost for the Gunners after a tricky 2-1 defeat at the hands of Villarreal in their Europa League semi-final first leg on Thursday.

David Luiz

Meanwhile, David Luiz was withdrawn from the game after sustained an hamstring injury while Newcastle end up to ten men in stoppage time following Fabian Schar’s red card for a late tackle on Gabriel Martinelli.

Martinelli, on the other hand, has been awarded Man of the Match for his performance against Newcastle this afternoon.
