STARBOY! Watch N’Golo Kante brilliant performer in Blues 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid

Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, was a big vital for N’Golo Kante, who appeared to be past his best but since arrived of German coach the Frenchman looks back to his best and was at his most disciplined and effective again as Blues defeat Atletico by 2-0.

Kante, 29, was on the peripheries of Chelsea’s side in the final days of Lampard’s reign and it appeared as if injuries were starting to get the better of him.

But the tireless French midfielder proved he’s still a world-class operator by delivering one of the best performances of his illustrious career as he covered every blade of grass in Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid last night.

Kante was everywhere, with his incredible stamina and intelligent positioning allowing him to pressed, sprinted forward, read the game, was constantly available and did not let Atletico’s midfielders settle.

Diego Simeone must have wondered if there were three of Chelsea’s No 7 out there, as the World Cup winner never stopped running from the first minute until the final whistle, even four minutes into stoppage time of a game where he’s run his heart out, Kante was the instigator of Chelsea’s final goal.

The tireless French midfielder won the ball back and fed Pulisic as Blues sprung a counter-attack. Pulisic eventually found Emerson – by the time Emerson was through on goal – Kante had rather unbelievably sprinted past Pulisic and was the furthest Chelsea player forward.

It was fantastic for Chelsea fans to see the 29-year-old midfielder back to his very best. Injuries and a couple of Chelsea manager’s moving his position has impacted Kante’s consistency in recent seasons but his display for Tuchel’s revived Blues was a reminder that Kante has lost absolutely nothing when he’s fully fit and in the midfield engine room.

The France World Cup winner racked up a remarkable 13 ball recoveries – the most of any player on the night – two interceptions and had a hand in both goals and he was awarded the man of the match award after produced the best version of him we’ve seen and as any avid viewer of the Premier League will know, that’s saying something.
