Report: Arsenal received huge boost in bid to land Houssem Aouar from Lyon this summer

Despite enduring a difficult campaign in Ligue 1 this season, Houssem Aouar still managed to delivered a big impression in several occasions for Lyon this term.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who establish himself as one of the best prolific midfield, suffered with injury and falling out of favour under Rudi Garcia this term, but has still managed to produced masterful display in middle of park for Ligue 1 side.

Aouar, who has played over 100 league games for Lyon already, and has also experience of playing in the Champions League and the Europa League, scored nine goals and contributed 10 assists across all competitions last season.

His performances last season had seen several clubs eye a move for the Frenchman, but it is stated that the Gunners, who in market for creative midfield were the only club to submit a bid.

The Gunners had held negotiations with the French side about bringing the attacking midfielder to London, but were unable to meet Lyon’s demands to make a deal happen.

However, ahead of summer transfer window, Mikel Arteta’s side have handed a boost in their pursuit of signing Houssem Aouar, who scored six goals and notched four assists in all competitions for Lyon this season.

Report by L’Equipe, claim the 22-year-old playmaker open to leaving Lyon this summer, while his asking price has plummeted after a disappointing campaign being in and out of the team.

It is suggested that an offer in the region of £25 million may be enough to sign the Frenchman this time around, roughly half of what they were asking for nearly 12 months ago.
