Raheem Sterling holds Mikel Arteta in high regard from their time at Etihad stadium amid claim Arsenal are interested in signing the England winger this summer.
The Premier League champions are reportedly willing to offload Sterling and Riyad Mahrez in the upcoming summer with Pep Guardiola keen on bolster his squad with new recruit ahead of next campaign.
According to the Daily Mail, Gunners are positioned themselves in bid to land Sterling as Mikel Arteta looks to make wholesale personnel changes ahead of next season.
Meanwhile, Gunner boss Mikel Arteta has already highly rates Sterling, following their spell together at Manchester City when the Spaniard worked as Guardiola’s assistant manager.
Speaking in October, the City attacker said: “(Arteta is) a person that had a lot of say here (at Man City). The manager trusted him here and he had a lot of influence on the players here and the team as well.
‘So I knew once he went into Arsenal that it would be a great opportunity for him but also he would definitely implement what he wanted to bring in.
‘And he’s a person that will put his foot down and not let things slide as you can see with the boys at Arsenal. They know if they don’t run they are most likely not going to play.’
