Maddison To Arsenal: Arsenal Chiefs Make Final Decision On Bring In The Foxes Star To Emirates This Summer

Arsenal have call off the James Maddison deal, with Mikel Arteta’s recruitment team believed the Englishman’s wage demands addition to Leicester’s £60m asking price, could be difficult for them to match, according to reports.

The Gunners are in the market for a creative midfielder this summer, with Martin Odegaard’s return to Real Madrid following his loan spell leaving Mikel Arteta short of options.

And it is understood that, Maddison, who establish himself as one of the best playmaker in the Premier League, priority target for Mikel Arteta, who keen to improve his attacking options for the 2020-21 campaign.

However, according to The Athletic, in addition to Leicester’s £60m asking price being an issue, Maddison’s wage demands could price Mikel Arteta’s side out of a move.

The reports explain in details that Arsenal hierarchy are not seriously pursuing the Englishman this summer, with only intermediaries are attempting to ‘match-make’ Arsenal with Maddison, given the club’s obvious need for a creative midfielder.

However, the finances behind the deal prove problematic for the Gunners. Maddison would expect an upgrade on his current £110,000-per-week wage at Leicester while the Foxes would demand a big fee for the midfielder.

The reports also suggested that Arsenal have been heavily linked with swoops for Odegaard and Lyon’s Houssem Aouar.

Mikel Arteta is keen on bringing the Norwegian back to North London, but is waiting on Real Madrid and Carlo Ancelotti to make a decision on the youngster’s Los Blancos future.

Aouar was a top target for the Gunners last summer, but club chiefs failed to thrash out a deal with the French side for their star man.
