Thomas Tuchel has delivered an huge boost concerning the situation of N’Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy ahead of Chelsea’s Uefa Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Both Chelsea star have limped out of recent Premier League matches, with Kante, who back to his scintillating form since arrived of German coach, picking up a minor hamstring against Leicester City.


While goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who establish himself as one of best stopper in the Premier League came off at half-time against Aston Villa on Sunday with a rib problem. 

The Blues pair have been vital in the west Londoners’ journey to the European showpiece event, with Tuchel providing positive injury news about his key men.

Speaking about N’Golo Kante in a pre-final press conference, Tuchel said: ‘He looks good and I hope he stays like that. 


‘We will just put him in training when the game starts on Saturday and not speak to doctors and physios or changing tactics. Sounds good to me.’

The German coach then revealed goalkeeper Mendy, who was replaced by Kepa Arrizabalaga at last weekend, is set to be back in Chelsea training on Wednesday.

The Blues boss added: ‘The update is we still have hope he joins training on Wednesday and the group. 


‘He made huge improvement with the management of pain. So we need a further update on Wednesday but we hope to have him back.’

Chelsea are aiming to lift a second Uefa Champions League title in the club’s history in Lisbon this weekend, after winning the same competition back in 2012.

They will face a difficult challenge in Pep Guardiola’s side, however, who strolled to the Premier League title earlier this season – though this is City’s first ever appearance in a European final.
