(FT) VIL 11-10 MAN: De Gea Misses Penalty To Hand Villarreal Europa League Title

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men headed into the final as big favourites coming up against a Villarreal team who finished seventh in La-Liga, but Unai Emery’s men stunned their opponents to seal Europa League glory in Gdansk.

Manchester United are made bright start into the game but unfortunately it was La-Liga side, who taken the lead through Gerard Moreno.

The Spaniard striker, who 30 goals across all competitions this season, made it 31 as by sliding home from a set piece in the 29th minute of the game.

Manchester United restored themselves back in second-half and found back of the net through Edinson Cavani, who tucking beyond Geronimo Rulli with a simple finish in 55th minute of the game.

Despite Manchester United pushing to take the lead, the showdown in Poland went to a tense 30 minutes of extra-time before the match went to a shootout scenario.

The succumbed to a dramatic 11-10 defeat during the penalty shootout, with goalkeeper David de Gea, who hadn’t saved a penalty in more than five years and 25 attempts,  missing the final spot-kick.
